Bring on the wheat.

I read this in the form of a tweet today and it has me thinking: "Why pray for bread when you live in the middle of a wheat field?"

How often do I do that?  Pray for, ask for, beg for something that is within my grasp.  How lazy have we become that we ask for everything to be done for us?  It is so much easier to go to the store and buy a loaf of bread or ask someone to pick one up for us instead of rolling up our sleeves and using that precious wheat to make our own.  I think about my classroom.  How tempting it can be to ask someone else to get something ready or help me solve a problem instead of doing a little research and figuring it out myself.

Instead of praying for bread today, I'm going to pray for courage and perseverence.  Courage to get off my butt and do things myself and the perseverence to see them through.  I can make my own bread.  Bring on the wheat.
