Chair Redo

While moving in to my new apartment I realized I needed a chair for my office - the folding chair I've been using just wasn't going to cut it in the new place!  After doing a little looking I managed to grab this little guy for $3 at a local Goodwill.  I introduced you to him earlier, but here he is again:
He was in pretty rough shape when I started.  Lots of scrapes, loose parts, and that lovely black speckled red vinyl seat covering!  I promise you the seat covering was the first thing to go - for your sake I didn't take any pictures of the cushion underneath that vinyl... it was not pretty.

A few hours of stripping, sanding, staining, and varnishing later plus a bit of time with a hammer and tacks made a big difference!

Materials: stripper (on hand)
sandpaper (on hand)
stain (I used Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut)
varnish (on hand)
foam seat cusion (puchased at JoAnns)
fabric (Found at JoAnn on clearance!)
tacks (on hand)
and just a bit of wood glue to tighten things up

THE RESULTS???
Not nearly perfect, but an adorable 'new' chair that will work perfectly in my UNI themed office/craft room!  As far as refinishing projects go, this is by far one of the sloppiest jobs I've done.  I've done at least 8-9 projects in my 23 years so I should have seen those spindle legs and that veneer in the back and passed on to a chair with straighter lines and solid wood.  Alas, I brought this on myself - and despite being pretty sloppy with my work, I love the finished product!!  Can you believe this is the first project I have ever refinished for myself?? I've done dressers, tables, and rocking chairs of all sizes but they were all for other people and although I'm all for doing things for others - it feels really good to get to use this piece myself.
(Sorry for poor quality photos...my camera has been making things appear 'fuzzy' lately...thinking it needs a tune-up!)
