I Was Here

I've been on a major Lady A kick this past week, and although my focus has been on their "Own the Night Album" (it has seriously been on repeat for weeks) I did stumble upon on of my favorites again tonight: I Was Here.  I LOVE the whole song, but here are some of my favorite lines that hit home most for me tonight:

You won't notice me, I'll be leaving my mark like initials carved in an old oak tree.
I'm ready to start cause I know in my heart I want to do something that matters, say something different - something that sets the whole world on its ear.
I want to do something better with the time I've been given.
I want to try, to touch a few hearts in this life and leave nothing less than something that says I was here.
I will prove you wrong.  If you think I'm all talk, you're in for a shock.
I know it's my destiny to leave more than a trace of myself in this place.
I know that I will do more than just pass through this life.
I wanna do something that matters - something that says I was here.

Tonight I'm refocusing on that goal.  Making sure my lessons are planned and meaningful for my students tomorrow, checking my Christmas gift list to see who else I can include in my giving this year, writing notes to some students to make their day brighter tomorrow, reading some new professional literature to make myself a better teacher, and working on some more blankies for babies.

I'm here right now.  Now is when I'm leaving my mark.
