February Poem

I know it's the 4th of March, but I promise that I actually wrote this one in February!  It actually has a tune that I've been singing along with it, but I'm not quite ready to share that yet.  Just the words will have to do for now.

I originally was calling it "Growing Up" but as it went on, that focus changed.  Now I'm calling it "Iowans Do."

Born on the farm
Raised in the hay
Playing outside every day
That's what childhood was.

You told the truth
Followed rules
Both at home and at school
There was no other way

Life was tough
God was love
And together we made it through
That's what Iowans do.

We give thanks
For rain above
Even a little is always enough
When you trust the land

Say hello
Lend a hand
Do for others what you can
Know that time is short

Life is tough
God is love
And together we'll make it through
That's what Iowans do

We look back
But dream ahead
We make sure the world stays fed
Here in the Hawkeye state

Look around
Feel the ground
Let your heart send roots on down

Even though...

Life is tough
God is love
Together we'll make it through
That's what Iowans do.
