Demolition Derby

This past week was my home county fair and was the first time in 14 years that I have not spent the ENTIRE week at the fair either showing or working.  I did spend all of Sunday there helping with the auction...I couldn't help it...love for the fair (even with all of its craziness) is in my blood!

As always, the event that draws the largest crowds out to the fair is the demolition derby.  This year both my brother and cousin had cars in the derby, making it extra exciting!  Eric drove a compact car and WON the compact derby!  Josh blew a hose and ended up smoking in the first heat, won the consolation round, and ended up 6th in the finals.  Three different times in the 'ring' meant much to do in the pits - pinching off the broken hose, cutting the metal away from the tires, throwing out the air filter, trying to rebend parts of the car back in shape, refilling gas and water, etc!  Although I'm not an incredibly handy mechanic, (primarily because I know next to nothing about the inner workings of cars and only pretend to know how to use each of the tools) I did manage to be helpful as a member of the pit crew!  I wasn't the MVP of our crew or anything, but I was certainly the top female on crew! ;)

The trunk...with my name!

Josh's car when he pulled his stick during the first heat - she was a little hot under the hood!

Eric had a bit of a precarious perch on top of this car after a crash during his heat.  He looked pretty uneasy as the skidloader lifted his car down!  Thankfully they let both cars keep running after getting them apart.

The end of the night.  Getting pushed back up onto the trailer.  It still runs, but is in real rough shape.  He's hoping to get it back in running condition by Thursday for a demolition derby in the county north of us - here's hoping!
